30 June 2020
Jewel Changi Airport was a joint venture between Changi Airport Group and CapitaLand. It did not involve any government funds or taxpayers’ money.

On 30 Jun 2020, a political party claimed in its manifesto that the “government has also seen it fit to splash billions of dollars of taxpayers’ dollars on extravagant public projects”, naming Jewel Changi Airport as one of such “lavish projects”. Another political party has made similar mention.
This is incorrect.
Jewel Changi Airport was developed by Jewel Changi Airport Trustee Pte Ltd, a joint venture between Changi Airport Group and CapitaLand. It did not involve any government funds or taxpayers’ money.
